Race for NVTRP
Join me and help to provide more therapeutic riding lessons, please give today.
We are racing for NVTRP. Ed is doing the Kinetic Lake Anna Triathlon on May 15, and Wendy is running the Wine Country half marathon on June 4. These are firsts for both of us and we've put a lot of time into training. Despite occasional grumblings about early morning workouts or two hour long Sunday afternoon runs, we both recognize we are fortunate to have the good health and lifestyles that make these pursuits possible.
The funds we raise will go towards providing therapeutic horseback riding lessons for children and adults with disabilities, youth-at-risk, and recovering military personnel. Four years into my tenure with NVTRP I believe more than ever in the importance of what happens at NVTRP. Daily I witness so much good--on the part of our (small but mighty!) staff, volunteers, riders, and their families. To spend time on our farm is to witness kindness. Kindness that is far too rare in today's world.
I could tell all kinds of stories about riders who benefit from NVTRP, but as I've run many-a-mile these last several weeks, I've mostly been thinking about the riders' parents (and when you run as slow as I do you have a lot of time to think!). It is in their honor I'm running my half-marathon. I'm happy when my kids are happy, and repeatedly, our riders' parents tell me what matters most to them about NVTRP is that it is the place where their children are happy. I wish for them more moments of happiness, the kind of happiness that comes from knowing your kids feel good about themselves.
On a lighter note, Ed joins me in thanking you for your support. NVTRP has become a bit of a family affair, with Ed helping out with barn chores during snow storms and Margaret riding in the community lesson program. We are grateful for the chance to be part of something good and appreciate any and all donations in support of the cause.
